Meteorological equipment

A meteorological observatory needs a set of instruments that work together. Lakshmi Engineering Works makes both the classic manual instruments built to Indian Standards and the automatic stations that record unattended.

Manual observatory instruments

• Stevenson screen (IS 5948): the louvred wooden shelter that houses thermometers and recorders in shade and free air.
• Maximum and minimum thermometer: the day's temperature extremes in one reading.
• Cup counter anemometer (IS 5912) and wind vane (IS 5799): wind run and wind direction.
• Open pan evaporimeter (IS 5973): evaporation for irrigation and water balance studies.
• Snow gauge: snowfall and its water equivalent at mountain stations.

Automatic stations

Our automatic weather station records wind, temperature, humidity, pressure, rainfall, radiation and more on a solar-powered data logger in an IP65 enclosure. Digital evaporation recorders and automatic snow gauge stations use the same logger, and can send data by GSM/GPRS.

Building a station

Tell us which parameters you need, how the data should reach you and whether an observer visits the site. We can supply single instruments or a complete observatory, including rain gauges from our rain gauge range.
