Three-cup mechanical anemometer to IS 5912:1970 that measures the total run of wind on a counter up to 9999.9 km.
Overview
The cup counter anemometer measures the run of wind passing the point of observation. It is often used at agro-meteorological stations, mounted 2 m above the ground, where the run of wind helps estimate potential evapotranspiration.
Three conical cups turn at a speed proportional to the wind speed and drive a mechanical counter with a range of 0 to 9999.9 km. Readings at the start and end of a period give the wind run, and from that the average wind velocity.
The instrument is made to IS 5912:1970, with a weather-resistant body for constant outdoor exposure.
Key features
How it works
Wind turns the three conical cups at a speed proportional to the wind speed.
The mechanical counter records the total run of wind.
The difference between two readings, over the time between them, gives the average wind velocity.
