Buying guide
Water management in agriculture starts with two questions: how dry the soil is at root depth, and how fast water soaks into it. Our soil instruments answer both.
A tensiometer measures soil moisture tension, the suction roots must overcome to take up water. Installed at root depth, its dial shows directly when the soil is drying out and irrigation is due. Tensiometers come in lengths from 15 to 120 cm, so several can be set at different depths.
A double ring infiltrometer measures the infiltration rate of a soil in the field. The outer ring keeps the flow under the inner ring vertical, so the fall of water in the inner ring gives a reliable rate. It is used for irrigation design, drainage and soil surveys.
Tell us the crop or the study, the soil and the depths you work at, and we will suggest the right set.
