Container and funnel gauge for measuring snowfall and snow water equivalent at mountain and field stations.
Overview
The mechanical snow gauge measures snowfall and its snow water equivalent. Snow gathers in a container fitted with a funnel, the type meteorologists and hydrologists use at mountain and field stations.
When the container is full or the snowfall has ended, the snow is melted and its water equivalent measured. The snowfall is then worked out by multiplying the water equivalent by 10.
How it works
Snow gathers in the container through the funnel.
When the snowfall ends, or the container is full, the snow is melted and the water equivalent measured.
Multiply the water equivalent by 10 to get the snowfall.
