Cup type current meter to IS 3910-1966 for stream velocities from 0.3 to 3.5 m/s, used on a cable with sinker weight or a wading rod.
Overview
The cup type water current meter measures flow velocity in streams, canals and rivers for discharge measurement. Water turns a rotor of cups on a vertical axis at a speed that follows the water velocity, and the meter signals each revolution to a counter or velocity indicator.
It is used on a cable with a sinker weight from a bridge, boat or cableway, or on a wading rod in shallow water, and measures velocities from 0.3 to 3.5 metres per second. A version for velocities up to 6 metres per second is also made.
The meter is made to IS 3910-1966 and is supplied with its calibration chart, which converts revolutions into velocity in m/s. The automatic counter or water velocity indicator is sold separately.
Key features
How it works
Lower the meter into the flow on a cable with a sinker weight, or hold it on a wading rod at the measuring depth.
The flowing water turns the cups at a speed that follows the water velocity.
The counter or velocity indicator registers the revolutions over a set time, and the calibration chart gives the velocity in m/s.
