Wheeled bridge crane to IS 6064-1971 with a gauging winch, for lowering current meters, sinker weights and samplers from bridges.
Overview
The bridge outfit is a portable crane for suspending current meters and samplers from a road bridge into a river or canal, and lifting them back. It saves building any structure in the channel and lets one team gauge from the bridge deck or from a boat.
It is made to IS 6064-1971. A winch (gauging reel) on the crane lowers and lifts the current meter with its sinker weight, with a brake, ratchet, crank and a resettable counter that shows the depth. The suspension cable carries an insulated electrical conductor for the meter signal.
The trolley runs on four wheels with solid rubber tyres and has a collapsible frame and folding handle for transport and storage. The rear assembly adjusts vertically, so the platform stays level when one side runs on a kerb or footpath, and all exposed parts are non-corrosive.
Key features
How it works
Wheel the outfit to the measuring section and level the platform.
The winch lowers the current meter and sinker weight to each measuring depth, read on the counter.
Velocity is read through the cable at each point, then the winch lifts the meter back.
